What role does chambers of commerce play to the business world?

I have been seeing "Chambers of Commerce". And going by the name, they are supposed to have one role or the other to play in business.

To get it right, what does Chambers of Commerce add to the world of business. As an entrepreneur, do I need to identify with them?

Chambers of Commerce plays a role in protecting, promoting, trade and investment and helping members (businessmen) to grow, in addition the chamber of commerce also provides network information and support to its members. In the international chamber of commerce acts as a global business representative.
