What was the reason that Skype died off?

We woke up to hear that Skype has been discontinued. It used to be a very useful app for video calls. What do you think is the reason why Skype was discontinued? What are the factors that made a good app as Skype not to thrive any longer?

Skype could not meet up with innovation and creativity that modern social media platforms have achieved. In business, the more competitive companies will thrive while less competitive will fold and stop existing.

I think it was due to the fact that Skype could not meet up with the various development and competitions.

It was Discord and Zoom that especially chased Skype away. Those apps had more features and Skype couldn't stand the competition

Skype was a good brand but I don't seem to understand why Microsoft didn't develop it but went t bring out Teams to compete with it.
