When you’re struggling, your relatives will behave like strangers, but when you become successful, even strangers will behave like relatives

She is mean and has a very low mentality. That's the reason my sons and I have severed all relationship with all my husband's family members.
It's better that way to severe ties with your in laws, anyway, they are not your relatives by blood. Tell your sons to fight back through reasoning.
 
When you become successful in your career, business, or investment, your relatives and friends become weird. They act as if they're doing it when you're financially struggling and never care to help you. There's no reason why give them time and attention. They have to taste their own medicine.
 
Some relatives are kind and sweet to you when they can financially benefit from you, but if not, they will think of you as useless. Some people are like that good only if you have much money.
 
I, myself passed through this experience, when I was struggling in my studies to get admission in B.Pharmacy, then some of my relatives were ignoring me and when I got admission there some strangers started admiring me.

That's the reality perhaps human nature to act that way. But they forgot compassion and kindness as virtues that lead human lives to be kind. They might be blinded of jealousy for seeing you in that course which could lead you to a better tomorrow. It can also happen in a family if there is a family member having a good job or business he or she is always admired or appreciated neglecting other family members whose income isn't much.
