Which are, in your opinion, the most critical travel skills?

I had a smartphone with internet and a map, so I assumed traveling by car would be easy and I wouldn't get lost. However, the first time I drove into a small village that wasn't even shown on the map, I had no idea how to get there. And at that time, I badly required English courses and communication skills.

If you are talking about traveling skills, then I think your ability to communicate and read maps is extremely important.
