WHO, The World Health Organization has announced notable reductions in new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths across Africa, marking a significant milestone in the continent's fight against the epidemic.

The WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Rebecca Moeti, stated on Friday, November 29, to commemorate World AIDS Day.. The theme for the day was Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right.”


Dr. Moeti highlighted a critical shift in global HIV trends, noting that for the first time in 2023, the number of new HIV infections was higher outside sub-Saharan Africa. She pointed out that the African region is leading globally in progress towards achieving the 95-95-95 UNAIDS targets for HIV testing, treatment, and viral suppression.
