Pilot project approach in business simply means that the business handles projects at a small level first before commiting their resources to take it up full scale. Take for instance, a company wants to go digital. They can start with digitizing a small part of their business first, let's say, Customer Support, before attempting to digitize the other aspects of the business.

When a company uses Pilot project approach, it minimizes risk and wastage of going all in to later realize it was a wrong move. It also affords the business a change to learn bit by bit before going all in.
