Why companies prefer to have and use a company letter head for letters?

I have seen some companies that don't use any other print material apart from the one that has the company letterhead. Why do some companies prefer to use the company letter head even for very small communication?

It makes such letter look formal and carry weight. The company letterhead is one of the identities of the company.

That's because it looks legal, and also professional. letterheards and logos with official signatures show legality of the letter.

You can't be sending a business proposal to me for supply or partnership and you are not using a letterhead from the company that is official. I would suspect that scammers are at work again.
