Many women desire a male companion (life partner) who surpasses them financially, in knowledge, strength, etc., so they can seek refuge with their husbands. Therefore, men must be stronger and should not show weakness in front of women. This situation often becomes a point of contention for men, especially if they are not yet financially successful. Men who hold government positions and are financially stable tend to be more confident.

Social expectations or societal expectations of men suggest that men are considered successful if they possess stable financial wealth and power.
There is a relationship between money, power, and self-esteem stemming from social norms rooted in societal psychology.
Most men have a mindset that accumulates wealth, if necessary, and power as a form of self-validation (success).

I think finances and power can significantly impact men's self-confidence, often due to societal expectations and traditional masculinity norms. Men are often socialized to be providers, so financial struggles or lack of power can feel like a hit to their identity.

When men aren't the highest earners in their household. it can lead them to feel disempowered, decreasing mental wellbeing and even increasing the likelihood of divorce.
