Why do some apps close automatically?

I have noticed that some apps are closing automatically when other apps are used, while a few apps continue to run in the background? Is it because some apps are designed to run in the background when they are not used, while others will close automatically?

Any app that closes automatically can't run on your phone. Or the processor is too busy at that time to run the app.
