I remember years back a drama series often contains 20 to 22 episodes per season, and in most cases, each episode where around an hour long. Fast-forward to today, we have a seasonal movie having just 6 episodes or in some cases 8 and in a very rare case 16. And most times each episodes are not even up to an hour, what could be the reason?

You can’t have them being shown at staggered times on all of these networks. The viewing public would have a conniption fit over it. it has to be uniform in 30 and 60 minute segments starting on the hour or half hour. Although when a station shows a series in syndication and show 4 a night they sometimes stagger those but it wouldn’t work on the major networks in prime time.

I think they don't want to bore fans with long episodes or an hour long, time changes things are not the same new season are being introduced & adjustments have to be made in order to keep fans satisfied the last season i watched was vampire dairies it was cut short don't know what happened.

yes you have a point though but let's take Smallville for example, each season had around 20 to 23 episodes and it took a shorter time for each season to come out. Then we have Wednesday today, a lot of fans are completely that it took four years for season two to come out and all they had was just 8 episodes, a lot are saying it's not fair to wait that long only to get very short episodes.

I now prefer series with fewer episodes because longer stories bore me. This transition might be because of creators wanting to avoid viewer fatigue or for other reasons. Hehe
It goes back to producers of the series they know the reasons of their up and down creations

You have a point there though, most producers don't have much to write about, so they just do something short to prevent burnout from viewing.

Its all about money there's no passion from creators anymore ,they must find another money making scheme to be comfortable.

Sadly you are right, these days they don't really care about the story or the quality of what they do, as long as it brings money to them.

Believe me when you're watching a long movie or series that is interesting you won't get bored
Exactly, i have watched some movies and series that are pretty long and i didn't even notice the length of them because i was enjoying every bit of it.

Your question is very logical @eLdavis. It is true that the style of drama has changed a lot in recent years, and this is due to several factors, including budget and quality.

In general, today's dramas focus more on quality than quantity, and this is reflected in the number of episodes and their length.

Do you prefer to watch dramas with many episodes and long durations, or these new ones with fewer episodes and short stories?

Yes that's true, personally if it's something interesting, i would love it to be long so i can get enough of it.
