Why do we have shorter episodes in seasonal movies today?

I remember years back a drama series often contains 20 to 22 episodes per season, and in most cases, each episode where around an hour long. Fast-forward to today, we have a seasonal movie having just 6 episodes or in some cases 8 and in a very rare case 16. And most times each episodes are not even up to an hour, what could be the reason?

I read last year a Kdrama having 80 episodes. I didn't feel bored but thrilled. I don't have any idea why it's the episodes are shorten. They might have received feedback viewers felt bored.

Makes sense though it can be annoying when you have to wait years for another season of your favorite show and all you get is just 8 or 6 episodes.

I honestly prefer it that way though like it's not really bad I find it easier to watch to be honest
