We all would love to have a comfortable place for habitation but the balance is that we should do so in line with our earnings and living expenses.

For a person earning $200 a month and still single, what is the ideal amount the person should spend on rent today?

With that amount, look at keeping your rents at $30 a month. A house of that range should be okay for a single person.
I agree with you. if you are a single person you can make do with a house that you pay about $30 monthly you would be comfortable in it

When I was in college I had to be able to manage the money given by my parents, so I had to choose a cheap, clean, safe and comfortable boarding house, so I had to choose a boarding house rent that was no more than 20% of the money I received each month. so I only rented a room not a house.

I also think that 20% of your income is the maximum anyone that is paying rent should pay for rent. Anything beyond that, you are working for the landlord.
