I have learned that most webmasters nowadays are running the website maintance costs with their money on their pockets. Monetization on websites hardly helps in paying the running costs for websites. What is your take on that?

Some people have no intention of making money form websites, some people want to generate revenue but they end up not making anything. I make money form my websites
Monetizing a site helps the site make money, and build new things if the site earns a decent income. Its good to invest back into your site to promote growth.
The website Monetization is very worthy of. However one really needs to have some skills so that they can materialize that matter.

What skills do you think one need to monetize a site? Monetizing basically means running ads or selling products on your site. Generating revenue is entirely different thing.
