Wikipedia used to be the number one source of information for many people. But it seems a lot of people now rely on Generative AI for information.

Do you think that Generative AI would be the end of Wikipedia?

Hi, I think the emergence of generative artificial intelligence won't necessarily be the end of Wikipedia, but it could significantly change how we search for information. Wikipedia has the advantage of being a collaborative encyclopedia, with a vast amount of verifiable and constantly updated content, making it reliable for many people. However, generative AI offers quick and convenient answers, making it very attractive to those who want immediate responses. The problem is that AI can still generate inaccurate or biased information, and it doesn't always have the sources or references that Wikipedia provides. Therefore, I believe both can coexist if they complement each other: Wikipedia as a reliable and verifiable source, and AI as a tool for obtaining quick and concise answers. The important thing will be learning to use each one correctly and responsibly.

Generative AI won't completely replace Wikipedia, as people still need a reliable source of trustworthy information. AI provides quick answers, but it often relies on data from sites like Wikipedia. People can use AI to simplify things, but Wikipedia remains the foundation of knowledge. Therefore, they coexist and support each other.

I still read information in details from Wikipedia. It is not possible to get those deep details from Al.

Generative AI feels quicker, but that doesn’t mean Wikipedia is finished. Wikipedia has something AI often lacks, which is visible sources and community review. Many people still trust it for background reading and fact checking. I see AI as a shortcut for simple questions, while Wikipedia stays relevant for deeper learning and cross checking information.
